Luminiş, Memorial house in Cumpătu district, Sinaia, Romania
Luminiș Villa sits on the right bank of the Prahova River and features Neo-Brâncovenesc architecture designed by architect Radu Dudescu. Inside, two exhibition rooms display documents about the composer's musical career and his original Ibach piano from Lausanne.
Romanian composer George Enescu built this villa between 1923 and 1926 using money from his first American tour and lived here from 1926 to 1946. The construction took place when he was gaining international recognition for his musical talent.
The house displays a blend of Romanian traditional furniture mixed with Asian pieces, showing the composer's varied artistic interests from his travels. You can see these influences reflected throughout the rooms as you walk through the space.
The villa sits by the river in a quiet part of Sinaia, making a walk to it pleasant, especially on nice days. It helps to check opening times beforehand since visitor hours may be limited.
A spiral staircase in the living room leads up to a belvedere tower and attic space that Enescu called his 'bageaga'. This personal retreat was his favorite quiet spot in the house.
