Szászhermányi láp, Nature reserve in Brașov County, Romania.
The Hárman Swamp is a wetland area with moist soils and diverse plant life near the Olt River valley. It sits at roughly 525 meters elevation and contains a mix of sandy, gravelly, and clay soils.
The area first gained protected status in 1962 and received formal legal protection through official designation in 2000. This two-stage process reflects growing efforts to preserve the natural landscape.
The area reflects the medieval Saxon heritage of Transylvania through nearby fortified churches that shape its character. These religious buildings are important landmarks that define the local landscape.
You can reach the reserve by car along National Road DN11 from Brașov toward Hárman. Continue on County Road DJ112A where the reserve entrance appears on the left side of the road.
The wetland is home to over 150 plant species that are ice-age survivors, thriving only in this specific habitat. Rare flowers like alpine primrose and snake's head fritillary grow here because of the unique soil and moisture conditions.
