Mănăstirea Călugăra

Mănăstirea Călugăra is a stone and brick structure located at the base of Rolului Rock, crowned by a distinctive Baroque tower. The building incorporates traditional Romanian Orthodox architectural features throughout its design and layout.

The monastery was established in 1858 and received official blessing in 1861. This founding reflected a period of religious growth and institutional development in the Banat region during the mid-19th century.

The monastery serves as a place where Orthodox believers gather for worship and prayer throughout the year. You can observe how the community maintains traditional religious practices through daily rituals and devotional activities.

The monastery is located east of Ciclova Montană and welcomes visitors throughout the year. The main festival occurs on October 1st, which is an ideal time to experience the community's full celebration and activities.

Within the monastery grounds stands a remarkable artistic feature - a sacred image carved directly into a beech tree that has remained exposed without bark covering for more than a century. This unusual religious artifact has captured the attention of visitors and continues to intrigue those who discover it.
