Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca

The Art Museum of Cluj-Napoca displays Romanian and European art across twenty exhibition rooms within an eighteenth-century Baroque palace. The collections span paintings, sculptures, and decorative objects arranged throughout different levels of the building.

The museum opened in 1951 by bringing together collections from the Transylvanian Museum and the Pinacoteca Virgil Cioflec. This merger created one of the country's major art institutions dedicated to preserving Romanian artistic heritage.

The rooms feature works by Transylvanian artists spanning four centuries, showing how this region developed its own artistic voice. You will see religious paintings alongside modern pieces, revealing how local creators blended different influences into something distinctly their own.

The permanent exhibitions feature paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts, while temporary shows featuring contemporary artists rotate regularly throughout the year. Allow several hours to walk through all the rooms, as the collections are extensive.
