Čukarica

Čukarica extends over 157 square kilometers along the Sava River, containing both densely populated neighborhoods and rural settlements within Belgrade's metropolitan area.

The district received its name from a 19th-century kafana owned by Stojko Čukar, gaining official municipal status through a local referendum on December 30, 1911.

The district maintains active cultural exchanges with partner cities including Bač in Serbia, Budva in Montenegro, and Heraklion in Greece through municipal programs.

The municipal administration provides residents with essential services while coordinating public transportation connections to central Belgrade through multiple bus and train lines.

The territory encompasses Ada Ciganlija, a river island transformed into a peninsula, and the Makiš field, which supplies Belgrade with drinking water.
