Bubanj Memorial Park, Memorial complex in Bubanj, Serbia.
Bubanj Memorial Park is a complex featuring three concrete obelisks reaching about 23 meters high, each shaped like a raised fist. The site includes a marble relief wall and sits within a wooded setting near Niš, creating a solemn space dedicated to remembrance.
Between 1942 and 1944, German forces carried out mass executions at this location, claiming the lives of thousands of Serbian, Jewish, and Roma civilians. The memorial park was established later to honor the victims and prevent their memory from being forgotten.
The site embodies a spirit of resistance that visitors can feel while walking through the grounds and reflecting on what occurred here. The marble relief wall serves as a place where people gather to remember and honor those whose lives were lost.
The site can be accessed from Vojvode Putnika road and provides parking areas and informational panels throughout the grounds. Visitors should allow time to walk the entire complex and read the names and stories on the memorial walls.
The three fists monument was designed by artist Ivan Sabolić in 1963 and each represents a different generation that resisted oppression. Their varying heights and positions reflect the diversity of those who perished at this location.
