Đerdap national park, National park along Danube River in eastern Serbia
The park extends over 63,786 hectares along the Danube River, forming a series of gorges and valleys with limestone cliffs rising 800 meters above sea level.
Archaeological discoveries at Lepenski Vir within the park revealed settlements dating from 6700 BC, demonstrating early human presence along the Danube River.
The medieval Golubac Fortress, positioned at the entrance of the Iron Gates gorge, features nine defensive towers constructed to control river navigation.
Visitors can explore numerous hiking paths connecting major sites, including the Mali Štrbac trail leading to observation points overlooking the Danube River.
The park contains plant species unchanged since the Pliocene era, including the Djerdap tulip that grows exclusively within this protected area.
