Branicevo Administrative District

The Branicevo District spans 3,865 square kilometers across eastern Serbia, encompassing eight municipalities with Pozarevac serving as its administrative center.

During the 9th century, a Slavic tribe called Branicevci settled near the Mlava River's estuary into the Danube, establishing the foundation of the district.

The National Museum in Pozarevac houses significant Serbian artifacts and maintains the gallery of Milena Pavlovic-Barili, displaying works of surrealist art.

The district contains 189 settlements, including seven cities and 182 villages, with a population density of 40 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The region experienced multiple territorial transitions between Byzantine, Hungarian, and Serbian control before becoming part of the Ottoman Empire in the 15th century.
