Dormition Cathedral, Khabarovsk, Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Khabarovsk, Russia.
The Dormition Cathedral is an Eastern Orthodox church in central Khabarovsk with five characteristic domes designed according to Russian Revival principles. The structure rises to about 60 meters and shapes the skyline with its size and proportions.
An original church was founded in 1876, but it was demolished in 1930 during the Soviet period. The present building was reconstructed between 2000 and 2002, restoring a central place of worship to the community.
The cathedral houses a 19th-century copy of an icon of the Theotokos that was transferred from an earlier church on this site. Visitors can see this religious artwork displayed within the peaceful interior space.
The cathedral is located on Komsomolskaya Square in the city center and is accessible year-round. Visitors should keep in mind that this is an active place of worship where respectful behavior and modest clothing are expected.
The building draws inspiration from the design of the Annunciation Church in Saint Petersburg but was adapted by local architect Yuri Podlesny to suit Khabarovsk's needs and character. This local reinterpretation of a famous style shows how Russian architecture was expanded beyond major centers.
