The Palace Embankment extends for 1300 meters along the Neva River, connecting the Palace Bridge to the Fontanka River intersection.
Catherine the Great commissioned architect Yury Felten in 1761 to replace the wooden embankment with stone structures, transforming it into a residence for Imperial nobility.
The embankment features the Hermitage Museum complex, Winter Palace, Hermitage Theatre, and multiple historical mansions that display Russian architectural evolution.
Visitors can reach the embankment through Admiralteyskaya metro station or take buses and trolleybuses that connect to neighboring districts.
The embankment provides direct views of the Peter and Paul Fortress, Vasilievsky Island, and the full span of the Neva River from its granite balustrades.
