Alexander Garden Obelisk

The Alexander Garden Obelisk is a 15-meter tall granite monument with a four-sided column and carved inscriptions. The structure stands in the upper garden's central area near the Arsenal Tower of Moscow Kremlin.

The monument was built in 1914 to mark 300 years of Romanov rule. Following the Russian Revolution, its dedication was changed, a shift that was reversed in 2013.

The obelisk displays Russian Revival styling with engraved regional emblems and decorative motifs carved into its surface. These artistic touches shape how visitors experience the garden and its connection to imperial tradition.

You can reach this monument easily through the Alexander Garden metro station, which brings you directly to the upper garden area. The site is flat and accessible on foot, making it simple to visit alongside other nearby attractions.

The structure was repurposed after 1917 when it was rededicated to honor socialist thinkers rather than the monarchy. This transformation remained visible for decades and reflects the country's political shifts.
