The Moscow Design Museum occupies the West Wing of the New Tretyakov Gallery at Krymsky Val 10, where it has been a resident since 2019. Its halls hold permanent displays and temporary exhibitions drawn from a collection of Russian and foreign design, from constructivist graphic work to Soviet industrial prototypes and contemporary objects.

Founded in May 2012 by art historians, designers, journalists, curators and architects, the museum opened in late November 2012 with the exhibition "Soviet Design 1950–1980". Since 2019 it has been a resident of the New Tretyakov Gallery, with its permanent display in the gallery's West Wing at Krymsky Val 10.
