Buildings of Moscow State University

The Moscow State University buildings on Mokhovaya Street form a cohesive complex with neoclassical architecture, featuring a central body flanked by symmetrical wings. The facades display detailed stone carvings and classical proportions that reflect 18th-century building traditions.

The university was founded in 1755 and moved to this location in 1782 following Catherine the Great's authorization to relocate from Red Square. Over the following decades, the complex was developed further and became central to Russia's academic growth.

During the Soviet era, additional domes and wings were added that modified the original neoclassical design. These additions reflect how the building adapted to different political periods and absorbed the architectural influences of its time.
