Lobanov-Rostovsky Residence
Lobanov-Rostovsky Residence, Neoclassical mansion at Admiralty district, Saint Petersburg, Russia
The Lobanov-Rostovsky Residence is a neoclassical mansion located near Saint Isaac's Cathedral on Admiralty Square in the city center. Two large stone lions guard the main entrance, and the building contains multiple floors with period rooms and elegant interiors now arranged as a luxury hotel.
The residence was built between 1817 and 1820 by architect Francesco Camporesi as a private home for a Russian nobleman. In the early 1800s, its basement level housed a printing workshop and commercial spaces that served the surrounding neighborhood.
The mansion appears in Russian literary works and holds a place in the city's cultural memory through such references. The stone lions at the entrance remain visible symbols that connect the building to these historical narratives.
The building functions as a luxury hotel and sits in a central location near other major city landmarks. The surroundings are easily walkable, making it convenient for exploring the downtown area on foot.
Early tenants of the basement included craftspeople and merchants who operated one of the city's first printing workshops there. This reveals how the building was woven into the daily life and commerce of the neighborhood for generations.
