Лихоборские ворота, Art installation at Altufyevskoye Highway, Moscow, Russia.
The Likhoborskie Gates is a wooden art installation located on Altufyevskoye Highway in northern Moscow. The composition features carved wooden elements assembled into a large gate-like sculptural form.
The artwork was created in 2005 by artist Nikolai Polissky and architect Galina Likhterova. Their collaboration with the Nikola-Lenivets artisan collective shaped the realization of this public installation.
The gates display traditional Russian woodworking methods within a modern artistic setting. Visitors can observe how local craft traditions merge with contemporary creative vision.
The installation stands along a busy highway and is easily accessible by public transportation. The Ostankino Tower nearby serves as a helpful landmark for orienting yourself to the location.
The wood for the gates was shaped by Nikola-Lenivets craftspeople using only traditional hand tools without modern power equipment. This hands-on approach gives the contemporary artwork an unexpected human quality.
