Vätteryd, Iron Age grave field in Norra Mellby, Sweden
The Vätteryd grave field spans across a heath between Tjörnarp and Sösdala, containing 183 menhirs, 15 stone ships, and 2 stone circles.
Archaeological investigations from 1955 to 1957 revealed that solitary stones served as fire pits constructed between 400 and 900 AD in this location.
The excavations at Vätteryd yielded bronze jewelry, glass pearls, and metal wires, which are now exhibited in Stockholm museums.
Visitors can observe approximately 250 standing stones, with the largest stone ship measuring 25 meters in length and 8 meters in width.
At the beginning of the 19th century, this burial ground contained about 600 menhirs, marking it as one of the largest grave fields in Scandinavia.
