Hässleholm Municipality, Administrative municipality in Skåne County, Sweden
Hässleholm Municipality is an administrative region in Skåne County in southern Sweden. It contains several urban settlements spread across its inhabited areas.
The region was empty land until 1860, when the Stockholm-Malmö railway line was built and sparked settlement here. In 1974, the city of Hässleholm joined with seven neighboring municipalities to form one administrative unit.
The name comes from hazelnut trees and an island, a connection that still appears in local stories and the region's sense of identity. People here feel tied to the railway heritage that shaped how the place developed and grew.
The area sits along a major railway line and is easy to reach from outside. The different settlements are connected by roads, making it simple to move between the urban centers.
The region owes its existence almost entirely to the railway that arrived in 1860 and turned a completely unsettled space into a living community. This railway-driven story sets it apart from many other Swedish municipalities built on older settlement patterns.
