Norra Kvill National Park, National park in Småland, Sweden
Norra Kvill National Park is a protected forest in Småland with ancient pine trees and large moss-covered boulders spread across 114 hectares. The woodland includes two lakes, with Stora Idgölen featuring water lilies among its shores.
The park was established in 1927 to preserve a virgin forest that had remained untouched by logging for over 150 years. An expansion followed in 1989 to strengthen protection of the woodland.
The forest embodies the natural identity of Småland through its ancient trees and stone formations that have shaped the landscape for centuries. Visitors experience this woodland character directly while walking among the towering pines and encountering the moss-covered boulders.
The park is accessible via the road between Vimmerby and Norra Vi with parking and information boards at the entrance. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear since forest paths are uneven and vegetation can be damp.
Some pines in the park are roughly 350 years old and stand beside massive moss-covered granite boulders left by the ice age. This combination of ancient trees and prehistoric stones creates a rare forest landscape found nowhere else in the region.
