Skånska järnvägar, Heritage railway line in Brösarp, Sweden
The Skånska järnvägar is a heritage railway in eastern Skåne that runs between Brösarp and Sankt Olof, stopping at small stations along the way. The line operates restored steam locomotives and passenger cars spanning more than 60 years of Swedish railway construction.
The original railway line opened in 1901 with regular passenger services between Brösarp and Sankt Olof. After passenger operations ended in 1971, railroad enthusiasts took over and restored it as Sweden's first standard-gauge heritage railway.
The railway is run by volunteers who maintain and operate historic steam trains, keeping the spirit of early 20th-century rail travel alive. Visitors experience how locals have transformed a closed line into a living museum that celebrates the region's transport heritage.
The railway runs most weekends with increased frequency during summer months when additional services are offered. Advance booking is recommended, especially if you want to reserve a seat in the dining car, as capacity is limited.
Passengers can enjoy a three-course dinner in the dining car while traveling through the countryside, making the ride itself part of the meal experience. This combination of train travel and dining is something few heritage railways worldwide offer.
