Boo church

Boo church is a stone building with a three-nave interior layout, a prominent tower, and a semi-circular apse featuring classical elements on its exterior walls. The structure has a large central hall with side aisles separated by columns, creating distinct spaces for worship.

The building was designed in the early 1920s by Swedish architect Martin Hedmark, who brought international architectural styles to Scandinavia. It opened for religious services in the summer of 1923 in the Saltsjö-Boo district.

The interior shows influence from Italian early Christian and Romanesque basilicas, combining northern European and Mediterranean building traditions. Visitors recognize this style immediately in the tall columns and vaulted ceiling sections.

The building underwent extensive renovation between 2020 and 2023, now offering modern amenities including an elevator, updated electrical systems, and improved accessibility. Visitors find all contemporary conveniences while the historic appearance has been preserved.

During restoration, the original 1923 color scheme was preserved while new functional spaces like assembly halls and staff areas were added. This shows how historical fabric and modern requirements can work together.
