Strmol Castle, Medieval castle in Dvorje, Slovenia
Strmol Castle is a medieval fortress in Dvorje with a tall central keep and corner turrets, surrounded by defensive walls at the foot of Dvorjanski hrib. The site has been restored and now serves as a venue and place to visit.
The castle was first recorded in the 13th century and is the only structure from that era to survive in the region. It has endured through centuries while other medieval structures disappeared.
The castle courtyard displays baroque sculptures with female figures and putti created by artist Angelo Putta Pozzi, moved here from Zalog manor garden. These works shape how the courtyard feels when you walk through it.
The castle functions today as a government guesthouse and conference venue with guided tours available for visitors. It is wise to check visiting conditions and tour availability before planning your visit.
The castle retained its original Slovene name throughout its entire history. Its restored interior contains authentic furnishings from various periods.
