Kozjak Falls, Natural waterfall in Kobarid Municipality, Slovenia
Kozjak Falls drops about 15 meters into a limestone chamber, forming a pool with green and blue reflections created by mineral-rich water. The water flows within a natural cave where moss covers the walls, creating an enclosed space around the cascade.
A bridge near the falls was built around 1750 and later destroyed during wartime before being rebuilt. The structure was part of important routes through the region for trade and movement.
The waterfall holds meaning for local people as a place worth protecting and caring for. Visitors notice how the community values keeping the area in its natural state.
A marked trail from Kobarid center leads to the falls, with the hike taking roughly 45 minutes one way. The ground can be slippery, especially after rain, so proper footwear is recommended.
The water here gets its colors from minerals in the surrounding rock, creating the different hues in the pool. This natural coloring shifts with changing light and time of day, making each visit look different.
