Sokolski dom Tabor is a three-story sports building with yellow facades decorated with geometric patterns and national symbols on all sides. Inside is a large vaulted gymnasium spanning 31 meters in length, along with two additional halls designed for sports and community gatherings.
Architect Ivan Vurnik designed this building between 1923 and 1926 as one of the first large indoor sports facilities in Slovenia for the Sokol sports organization. Its completion marked a turning point for organized athletic activities in the country.
The building served as a gathering place for the Sokol movement, a national sports organization that combined gymnastics with community spirit. The spaces were designed to bring people together for public events and athletic activities.
The building has multiple entrances and large windows extending to the ceiling, allowing plenty of light into the interior spaces. Navigation inside is straightforward thanks to supporting pillars that clearly define different zones.
The location where this building stands was formerly known as Kravja dolina and served as a livestock fair site in the 17th century. This transformation from animal trading to a modern sports venue shows how the city evolved across the centuries.
