Chat Trakan, Administrative district in Phitsanulok, Thailand
Chat Trakan is an administrative district in the northern part of Phitsanulok province that encompasses forested hills and river valleys. The area includes several national park zones and extends to the border with Laos in the east.
The district was established as a full administrative unit in 1974 after previously having a subordinate status. It later became involved in border tensions between Thailand and Laos in the 1980s.
The district maintains 36 Buddhist temples throughout its six sub-districts, representing the strong religious traditions of its 38,646 residents.
The best time to visit is during the dry season from November to February when roads are in better condition. Many areas require a local guide or organized tour to access safely.
The district contains a seven-tiered waterfall that descends 4,200 feet through diverse ecosystems, featuring multiple swimming areas at different levels.
