Trabzon Airport, airport near the city of Trabzon in the eastern Black Sea region of Turkey
Trabzon Airport is a commercial airport in Ortahisar, close to Turkey's Black Sea coast. It has two terminals handling both domestic and international flights, with basic facilities including cafes, shops, and service counters spread across the building.
The airport first opened in 1957, making it one of the older operating airports in Turkey. Since then, the terminals have been expanded and updated several times to keep pace with growing passenger numbers.
The airport takes its name from the nearby city and sits close enough to the Black Sea coast that the surrounding scenery is visible on clear days. Passengers arriving from other parts of Turkey often notice the green hills and water as the plane descends, which gives the place a noticeably regional feel.
Taxis, shuttle buses, and car rental counters are available directly at the terminals, making onward travel straightforward. Signage inside the building is in both Turkish and English, which helps most travelers find their way around without difficulty.
The runway at Trabzon Airport extends so close to the shoreline that planes appear to land over the sea when approaching from certain directions. This makes the final approach one of the more unusual in Turkey, with water visible just below the aircraft windows.
