Körtik Tepe

Körtik Tepe is a Neolithic archaeological site in Batman Province containing multiple layers of ancient settlements. Excavations have revealed stone tools, storage pits, and house foundations that document thousands of years of continuous occupation.

This site dates back approximately 11,500 years and documents how people in this region shifted from nomadic to settled life. The findings demonstrate that residents here were among the first to practice early forms of farming.

The artifacts show how early communities organized their daily life and social bonds in this place. Through the objects found during excavation, visitors can sense how people here once worked, lived together, and cared for one another.

The site can be accessed through Agil Koyu village and is best explored on foot. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and be prepared for uneven terrain, as this is an active archaeological excavation area.

The excavations have uncovered thousands of stone vessels from the pre-ceramic period, revealing the skill and creativity of people before pottery was invented. These carefully shaped containers were essential for storing food and water in daily life.
