Old Bridge, Hasankeyf

The Old Bridge spans across the Tigris River with four stone arches, supported by two substantial piers constructed from stone, brick, and wood.

Built between 1147 and 1167 by Artuqid Turkmens, the bridge served as a vital crossing point featuring one of the largest central arches of its time.

The bridge represented a meeting point for merchants and travelers from different regions, contributing to the exchange of goods and traditions in Hasankeyf.

The remains of the bridge, along with the surrounding archaeological site, were submerged in 2020 due to the construction of the Ilısu Dam.

The bridge structure contained defensive passages within its walls, demonstrating advanced military engineering techniques of medieval bridge construction.
