Saint Jacob of Nisibis church

The Saint Jacob church features two main sections with buttresses, an apse, and decorated arched doors displaying Late Roman and Byzantine architectural elements.

The church was built between 313 and 320 CE as a baptistery of a cathedral under the direction of Jacob of Nisibis, who served as bishop.

The structure contains inscriptions in Ancient Greek from 571 CE and houses important artifacts that reflect early Christian traditions in Upper Mesopotamia.

The religious building stands at 470 meters elevation and requires visitors to verify opening hours before arrival due to varying seasonal access.

Archaeological excavations have uncovered thousands of artifacts, including children's graves with glass bracelets and beaded necklaces from ancient Assyrian burials.
