Forum of Constantine, Ancient Roman forum in Istanbul, Turkey
The Forum of Constantine features a circular plaza with the Column of Constantine at its center, measuring 140 meters in diameter.
Emperor Constantine I established this forum in 330 CE as a central point along the Mese, the main ceremonial road through Constantinople.
The Senate House within the forum contained bronze doors depicting mythological scenes of gods and giants engaging in battle.
The Column of Constantine stands near the Çemberlitaş tram station, connecting visitors to other historical sites in the area.
Iron hoops encircle the porphyry column blocks, leading to its Turkish name Çemberlitaş, which translates to Hooped Stone.
