The mosque was commissioned in the late 15th century by Hadim Atik Ali Pasha, a high-ranking official at the Ottoman court. It is one of the oldest surviving Ottoman mosques in Istanbul and reflects the building style of the period before the architect Sinan.
The mosque sits right in the heart of the Grand Bazaar district, surrounded by traders and residents who pass through daily. Stepping inside, visitors notice how the space is woven into the everyday rhythm of this part of the city.
The mosque is in the Çemberlitaş neighborhood, a short walk from the Grand Bazaar, and easy to reach on foot from several major sites. As it remains an active place of worship, visitors should dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering.
Hadim Atik Ali Pasha served as Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire under two different sultans, which reflects how powerful he was at court. This mosque is the only structure he built that still stands today.
