Tuzla

Tuzla is a district on the southeastern edge of Istanbul, stretching along the Sea of Marmara coastline. The area spreads across multiple neighborhoods and contains military installations alongside university campuses.

After the 1923 Lausanne Peace Treaty, Turkish settlers from Greek territories arrived to build a new community in what had been a fishing town. This resettlement fundamentally transformed the area's population and way of life.

The area is accessible by bus, minibus, and ferry services, with journeys from central Kadiköy taking roughly an hour. Visitors should choose their transport based on their destination, as travel times vary across the district's neighborhoods.

The district is home to Turkey's largest shipbuilding yards, where thousands of workers build vessels for markets around the world. This industry shapes both the local economy and the physical landscape in distinctive ways.
