Mount Honaz, Mountain national park in Denizli Province, Turkey.
Mount Honaz is a forested peak in Turkey's Aegean region reaching 2,571 meters with dense forest covering the northern slopes. The southern sides are more open with drier plant life, while deep ravines and mountain streams carve through the landscape.
The mountain was known as Mount Cadmus in ancient times and held military importance in the medieval period when conflicts occurred on its slopes. Modern protection and hiking routes were established much later to preserve the landscape.
The mountain's name comes from Greek meaning 'sacred.' Local communities use the slopes for traditional herding and seasonal movement patterns that have shaped how people live in this region for centuries.
The mountain has two main entrances: a northern access from Honaz district and a southern entrance near Cankurtaran recreation area. Spring and autumn offer the best conditions for visiting, as winters bring heavy snow and summers grow very hot.
The mountain is home to around 964 documented plant species, including three varieties found nowhere else on Earth. These rare plants make it a destination for those interested in botany and nature observation.
