Fountain of Ahmed III, Fountain in Turkey
The Fountain of Ahmed III is an Ottoman imperial fountain located in the great square in front of the Imperial Gate of Topkapi Palace.
It was built in 1728 during the reign of Sultan Ahmed III, as a classical example of Tulip Period architecture.
Inscriptions on the fountain are fine examples of calligraphy and poetry, expressing royal ideology.
Now a major tourist attraction, it no longer serves water but stands as a historic landmark in Istanbul.
Unusually for Turkish fountains, its water dispensing taps are located inside small domed structures.
