Museum of folk architecture in Prelesne

The Museum of folk architecture in Prelesne is a collection of traditional Ukrainian buildings arranged across an outdoor site. Visitors find wooden churches, farmhouses, barns, and farm buildings that represent the architectural styles of different regions throughout Ukraine.

The museum was established in 1983 to protect and preserve the architecture of rural Ukraine. Its creation came from efforts to save historical buildings from disappearing and to make them accessible to future generations.

The village structures reveal how people lived and worked in rural Ukraine through the layout and purpose of each building. Homes, churches, and farm buildings show the daily needs and craftsmanship of traditional communities.

The grounds are spread out, so comfortable clothing and proper footwear are important for visiting. Guided tours are offered in several languages and help visitors understand the building techniques and local traditions better.

At the center of the grounds stands a wooden windmill that shows the engineering techniques used for grain processing in rural areas. This working mill illustrates an important daily task that was once central to village life.
