St. Michael's Cathedral, Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Cherkasy, Ukraine.
St. Michael's Cathedral is an Eastern Orthodox cathedral built from brick in the Byzantine Revival style in the center of Cherkasy, Ukraine. The building is about 58 meters long and 54 meters wide and is topped by nine domes arranged around a central one.
An earlier church on this site was demolished in 1937. The current building was begun in 1994 and completed in 2000, restoring a religious presence to this part of the city after more than sixty years.
The cathedral functions as the main place where Orthodox Christians gather for worship and major religious observances in Cherkasy. Its multiple domes have become a visual landmark that represents faith and community identity for local residents.
The cathedral stands in central Cherkasy and can be reached on foot from most points in the city center. Access to parts of the interior may be limited during services and on major religious holidays.
The nine domes are not all the same size: the central dome rises above the others and gives the building its recognizable outline against the sky. This graduated arrangement means the building looks different depending on the angle from which you see it.
