Shukhov Tower Cherkasy

The Shukhov Tower Cherkasy is a water tower with a distinctive hyperboloid metal lattice structure. Its framework demonstrates advanced engineering principles through mathematical geometry, creating a lightweight yet stable construction that handles stress efficiently.

The tower was built in 1914 following Vladimir Shukhov's designs, marking a turning point in water infrastructure engineering. After damage during the Second World War, it was rebuilt in 1949 and has remained standing since.

The tower shows how early 20th-century constructivist design merged industrial purpose with mathematical form. Visitors can see how engineers created visual harmony through pure structural logic rather than decoration.

The structure sits near Hetman Sahaidachny Street and is easily visible from the road. Although it no longer functions as a water storage system, visitors can walk around and observe the lattice framework from different angles.

Shukhov designed roughly 200 hyperboloid structures worldwide, but only about 20 still stand today. This Cherkasy example is among the rare surviving specimens that have made it through the decades.
