Hurlers Stone Circles, Bronze Age stone circles on Bodmin Moor, England
The site includes three stone circles arranged in a straight line over 110 meters. The central, largest circle has a diameter of 41.8 meters and contains 14 standing stones. The two adjacent circles are smaller, forming a coherent architectural grouping that indicates the careful planning by their Neolithic builders.
Excavations in 1936 by C. K. Croft Andrew uncovered a quartz crystal paving in the central circle, providing tangible evidence of rituals performed at this site over 4,000 years ago. The find suggests that the location was used for significant ceremonies during the Bronze Age.
According to Cornwall oral tradition, these stones are said to be hurling players turned to stone for playing their sport on a Sunday, violating the Lord's Day. This legend reflects the importance of Christianity in local culture and its influence on interpretations of pagan monuments by medieval populations.
Open access throughout the year. Free parking 400 meters from the site, with a short path leading to the circles.
Evidence of intentional polishing remains on several stones, indicating that Neolithic builders shaped these blocks before erecting them, a task involving hundreds of hours of collective labor.

Stone circles are megalithic structures from prehistoric times. These monuments served as astronomical observation points and gathering places. The constructions demonstrate the technical abilities of early societies. The stones were placed and aligned with precision. Many of these circles connect to solstices and star constellations.
