Yonkers

Yonkers stretches along the Hudson River and covers residential areas, commercial zones, and redeveloped waterfront sections over roughly 20 square miles (52 square kilometers). The architecture shifts from single-family homes to apartment blocks and business buildings, while riverfront projects and public walkways have reshaped the shoreline.

A Dutch colonist received this land in the mid-1600s, and the name came from his title of young gentleman. The area later grew into a center for carpet manufacturing before industry declined and the city shifted toward new development.
