Newark Liberty International Airport
Newark Liberty International Airport, International airport in Newark, United States
Newark Liberty International Airport is an international airport in Newark, United States, with three passenger terminals serving domestic and international flights. The terminals are connected by wide corridors, shops and waiting areas, while the runways stretch across a sprawling site.
The airport began operations in October 1928 as one of the first commercial airports in the United States. After the events of September 11, 2001, it received the name Liberty as a mark of remembrance.
Travelers from around the world move through the terminals, and many use the airport as a bridge between Europe and the rest of North America. The arrival halls reflect the diversity of the region, with passengers speaking different languages and making the links between continents visible.
A monorail system connects all terminals with parking areas and provides direct access to Amtrak and NJ Transit trains serving multiple northeastern cities. Signage is clear, but during heavy traffic it helps to allow extra time for moving between terminals.
Singapore Airlines operates from here the longest direct flight in the world to Singapore, covering a distance of 9,523 miles (15,345 kilometers). This airport is also among the few in the United States that maintain their own fire station with constant readiness.
