Middletown, Industrial center in southwestern Ohio, United States
Middletown spreads across Butler and Warren counties, located roughly 29 miles northeast of Cincinnati and 20 miles southwest of Dayton along the Great Miami River. The settlement combines residential neighborhoods with commercial districts along several main roads that run through flat terrain.
The Ohio General Assembly granted incorporation to the settlement in 1833, and it expanded considerably after the founding of AK Steel Holding Corporation in 1900. Steel production shaped the local economy for decades and drew workers from across the region.
The Canal Museum, opened in 1982, displays exhibits about the Miami and Erie Canal system that once linked the settlement to Toledo and Cincinnati. Visitors can trace how the waterway shaped trade and regional growth during the 19th century.
The settlement is accessible via several state highways including Ohio State Routes 4, 73, and 122, with direct connection to Interstate 75 for regional travel. Visitors will find parking along main streets and near public facilities.
Each November brings an annual winter celebration featuring an outdoor ice rink and community events known as 'A Very Merry Middletown'. The gathering draws families from surrounding areas who come to skate and celebrate together despite mild temperatures.
