Ironton, County seat in Lawrence County, Ohio, United States.

Ironton sits along the Ohio River and serves as the administrative center for Lawrence County. The city spans several square miles and offers various public facilities along with schools and financial institutions for its residents.

John Campbell founded the city in 1849 with the goal of exploiting the region's iron ore deposits. By the late 1800s, the city became a center of iron production, with numerous furnaces manufacturing metal for export.

Downtown Ironton displays buildings from different eras between 1850 and 1974, showing how the city evolved over generations. This mix of early commercial and modern building styles reflects the city's development through various phases of its economic life.

City administration is located in a central building and is accessible during weekdays for inquiries and services. Visitors should arrive during regular business hours to access administrative services.

The city is home to one of the nation's oldest still-operating memorial observances, held annually on Memorial Day. The parade continues to draw people and honors those who served in the armed forces.
