Hanover, Historic borough in York County, United States
Hanover is an administrative district in southern Pennsylvania, located roughly 19 miles southwest of York. The town extends across a hilly area with residential neighborhoods, a compact business center, and several industrial sites near its edges.
McAllister founded the town in 1763 after Digges received the land several decades earlier. The settlement grew as a trading crossroads before becoming home to several food factories in the 20th century.
The main street shows buildings from the late 1800s, including storefronts and inns with cast-iron facades. Many of these structures now serve as shops and offices while their architecture recalls earlier decades.
Several state roads pass through the town and connect it to nearby cities and rural areas. A local bus service stops at points in residential neighborhoods and along main traffic routes.
Two major snack makers have run production plants here for decades and still shape the town's appearance today. Their factory buildings stand along approach roads and are recognizable through characteristic company signs.
