Lewisburg, County seat and borough in Union County, Pennsylvania

Lewisburg is a borough and county seat in Union County, central Pennsylvania, sitting along the West Branch Susquehanna River. The downtown core shows several rows of Federal-style brick buildings under old trees, while residential neighborhoods spread over gentle hills behind the main street.

Ludwig Derr purchased land from the William Penn family in 1784 and founded the settlement, initially called Derrstown. The name changed to Lewisburg when the place became the administrative center of the newly formed Union County.

The Bucknell University campus sits within the residential blocks, bringing lectures, laboratories and student events into the neighborhood. University buildings stand next to homes and shops, so professors and students live and shop in the same streets as other residents.

The downtown core holds over 40 independent stores and restaurants within walking distance, so visitors can explore several blocks on foot. The flat riverside location makes walking easy, while parking is available along the side streets.

The Lewisburg Community Garden project links town residents with students who tend vegetable plots, with harvests going to local food assistance programs. The plots sit on shared land between houses and university buildings.
