Annandale, Census-designated place in Fairfax County, United States

Annandale is a census-designated place in Fairfax County, Virginia, made up of residential neighborhoods and commercial centers connected by tree-lined streets. The area spans rolling terrain and includes several schools, one of the oldest Northern Virginia Community College campuses, and local recreational spaces.

The area was established in the late 1600s when Colonel William H. Fitzhugh acquired extensive land for tobacco plantation operations. During the Civil War, the region served as a strategic position for Union forces before developing into a modern suburban community.

The area is home to a significant South Korean business community, with Korean restaurants, shops, and services shaping the local commercial character. Along main streets, visitors encounter a mix of Korean establishments and traditional American retailers that reflect the neighborhood's demographics.

The area is well-served by public transportation and offers numerous shopping and dining options across different commercial districts. Visitors should expect regular traffic congestion on major roads during rush hours, and local parks are accessible year-round for recreation.

During the Civil War, the local Methodist Chapel was dismantled so its materials could be used for military purposes. This destruction shows how deeply the conflict affected the local community and reshaped its physical landscape.
