Dominion Hills Historic District, Historic district in Arlington County, United States.
Dominion Hills is a residential district in Arlington County containing about 446 buildings spread across roughly 102 acres, mostly two-story homes. The houses follow Colonial Revival style throughout with traditional design elements like clean lines and classic details.
The district was built between 1945 and 1948 by developers Mace Properties Inc and Benson & Vest. It arose in response to demand for affordable housing for working and middle-class families in the postwar period.
The neighborhood shows how people in the postwar era wanted to live together, with close streets and similarly designed homes that create a sense of community. This type of planning was typical for developing areas where families could make fresh starts in affordable houses.
The district is bounded by North Four Mile Run Drive, North McKinley Road, North Larrimore Street, and Ninth Street North. The streets are pleasant for walking and form a logical grid that makes navigation straightforward.
The area was home in the 1950s to Warren Beatty and Shirley MacLaine, two actors who later became Hollywood stars. A house at 930 North Liberty Street was an ordinary place where people lived before achieving worldwide fame.
