Fountain of Faith, Bronze fountain in Falls Church, Virginia, US
Fountain of Faith is a bronze installation with thirty-seven life-sized figures arranged in a large courtyard at National Memorial Park. The sculptures depict various poses and moments from everyday life, collectively creating a comprehensive human narrative.
Swedish sculptor Carl Milles created this work over many years as a personal tribute to people from his life. A major ceremony in 1952 marked the completion and dedication of this sculptural ensemble.
Each bronze figure tells a personal story from the sculptor's life, from a boy who rescued a bird to mothers reunited with their children. These stories transform the fountain into a deeply personal memorial for people who were close to the artist.
The site is located within National Memorial Park and is easily accessible from Lee Highway. The installation has an open courtyard where figures can be viewed from multiple angles.
The artist accepted payment for only four of the thirty-seven figures, revealing his deep personal commitment to the project. This generous gesture shows how important realizing his vision was to him.
