Harvard Stadium, Football stadium in Allston, Boston, US
Harvard Stadium is an American football arena in Allston and forms an open-ended shape of gray concrete that holds about 30,000 spectators. The walls rise in simple straight lines and create an open venue for athletic competitions.
The venue opened in 1903 and was the first large construction made of reinforced concrete on the continent. It later shaped the design of other sports facilities across North America.
Students from the university use the steps throughout the arena for training and run up and down between the rows of seats all year round. On game days the venue fills with families and visitors watching the home team.
Access is free for university students and visitors can attend competitions during the academic year. For guests outside the community it is advisable to check in advance whether general events are open.
The fixed construction prevented a widening of the playing field in 1906 and led to the introduction of the forward pass in American football. This rule change transformed the entire game and made it more mobile.
