The Discovery Museums

The Discovery Museums is a children's facility in Acton spanning over 16,000 square feet of hands-on exhibits dedicated to science, nature, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. The spaces feature interactive displays designed for direct participation and exploration across multiple learning areas.

The institution was founded in 1982 by an educator and expanded its offerings in 1988 to include science-focused exhibits. A major renovation completed in 2018 modernized the facility and created updated learning environments.

The museum creates spaces where children learn through play and hands-on discovery, showing how science connects to everyday life. Visitors experience how learning happens naturally when curiosity drives exploration rather than formal instruction.

The facility sits on grounds with access to outdoor natural areas and play spaces for exploration beyond the indoor exhibits. Visitors should plan for both indoor and outdoor time, bringing weather-appropriate clothing for the outdoor areas.

The outdoor area features a walkable treehouse specially built for accessibility, offering children nature experiences they might not find elsewhere. This treehouse and surrounding grounds blend play with genuine exploration in a real outdoor setting.
