Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Motorsport racing track in Troy Township, United States
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is a racing track in Troy Township, Ohio, winding nearly four kilometers through rolling countryside with 15 turns. Different track layouts allow races for several vehicle categories, from motorcycles to sports cars.
The facility opened in 1962 and underwent major work in 1990 with new surface and widened sections. A steep downhill straight replaced an old turn combination in 1963 because the original layout proved too fast.
This venue hosts a driving school where people of all ages learn safe techniques for cars and motorcycles. Many participants return year after year to improve their skills and connect with other vehicle enthusiasts.
The grounds hold around 12,000 viewers in fixed stands and offer camping zones for overnight stays during race days. Parking areas spread around the course and are divided by zones that ease access to different viewing spots.
One of the turns is called Keyhole and suggests the shape of a lock opening, because drivers first turn sharply and then accelerate hard. The name remains popular among drivers because it captures the feeling of this section.
