Ubly, human settlement in Huron County, Michigan, United States of America

Ubly is a small village in Huron County, Michigan, centered around farming and agricultural life. It is also home to the largest wind park in the Thumb area, featuring many turbines that generate clean energy for the region.

The village was originally called Sidon, inspired by biblical stories, then later became Pagetts Corners after Alfred Pagett, who opened a store in 1870. A fire destroyed that store in 1881, but the community continued to grow and eventually received its current name, Ubly.

The name Ubly came from a spelling mistake when a government official misspelled a English town name suggested by a local store owner. This accidental naming has become part of the village's identity and shows how small moments can shape a community's character.

The village is easy to explore since it is small and remains walkable throughout. You can see local stores, farms, and the wind turbines while enjoying a quiet environment that feels unhurried.

The store owner declined the proposal to name the settlement Pagettville, showing a humble character that still shapes the community today. This modesty helped the village balance progress with tradition in a way that feels natural and unforced.
